A High Level meeting convened in the Foreign Ministry today reviewed the progress made in completing requirements for Pakistan’s participation in European Union’s Generalized Scheme of Preferences (GSP) Plus. Pakistan is seeking GSP Plus status to secure greater access for Pakistanis exports to the EU markets.
The meeting was co-chaired by Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, the Honorable Speaker of the National Assembly who attended as a special gesture, and Mr. Sartaj Aziz, Adviser to the Prime Minister for National Security and Foreign Affairs. The Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Tariq Fatemi, Foreign Secretary, Secretary Commerce, and senior representatives of relevant Ministries as well as Provincial Governments participated in discussions.
The Meeting stressed the need for fulfillment of all requirements in a timely manner, and identified a number of steps to be taken at the federal and provincial levels in order to ensure success for Pakistan’s bid for GSP plus.
